Sandeep Rana, Ph.D., (LinkedIn) is a visionary leader and researcher whose passion for agricultural sciences is transforming the future of farming. With a career dedicated to innovation, Dr. Rana has spent majority of his professional career to date at Bayer, most recently leading the Global Design & Optimization organization for Bayer’s Vegetables R&D business. Dr. Rana has a strong track record of leading cross-functional, multi-cultural teams to push the boundaries of innovation, spearheading strategic initiatives and technology delivery across Vegetables, Breeding, Biotech, and Field Solutions organizations. His relentless pursuit of excellence has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, abstracts, and extension publications, alongside countless impactful scientific and outreach presentations. As an Associate Editor and reviewer for multiple international journals, and a leader in national and regional professional societies, Dr. Rana is deeply committed to giving back to the field that shaped him. His contributions to the field of agriculture have earned him numerous prestigious accolades, including the WSSA Outstanding Industry Award, the Seed World Magazine NextGen Global Leader Award, the Virginia Tech School of Plant & Environmental Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award, and the Delaware Business Times 40 under 40 Award, reflecting his ability to inspire change at global, national, and local levels.

Born into a family of agricultural researchers on the campus of a land-grant university in India, Dr. Rana’s destiny was shaped by his father, a plant pathologist, who ignited his passion for agricultural sciences. Fueled by this inspiration, he embarked on an academic journey that began with a B.Sc. (Honors) in Agriculture and an M.S. in Horticultural Biotechnology from CCS Haryana Agricultural University in India. Determined to make a global impact, he pursued advanced degrees in the USA, earning an M.S. and Ph.D. in Weed Science and Agronomy from the University of Arkansas and Virginia Tech, respectively. Now residing in Delaware with his small family, Dr. Rana continues to lead, innovate, and inspire, showing that with passion and perseverance, the seeds of change can grow into a legacy of global impact.
